What is Carfare?
Carfare is a marketplace that connects people who want to rent a car with people who have one to offer. Whether you need a vehicle for a weekend trip around Iceland or want to put your idle car to work, Carfare makes it simple, safe, and affordable.
Why we built it
Traditional car rental in Iceland is expensive and often booked out during peak season. At the same time, thousands of privately owned cars sit unused for most of the day. Carfare exists to close that gap — letting locals earn from their vehicles while giving travellers and residents a more affordable alternative to the big rental chains.
How it works
Browse
Search cars by location, type, and dates. Every listing shows photos, features, and honest owner reviews.
Book
Send a booking request. The owner has 24 hours to accept. Payment is only captured once confirmed.
Drive
Meet the owner for a digital handover. Drive, return, and leave a review. It's that simple.
For car owners
Listing your car on Carfare is free. You set your own price, availability, and pickup location. When a booking is confirmed we handle the payment, the rental agreement, and the handover documentation so you can focus on being a good host. Payouts are processed once the trip is complete.
Trust and safety
Every renter must upload a valid driving licence before booking. Payments go through a secure payment processor — we never store card details. Rental agreements are generated automatically and signed digitally at handover, giving both parties a clear record of the car's condition before and after each trip.
